There are two main types of light acne treatment people with acne use. These are the blue and clear light treatments. Both types of treatments work by killing the bacteria that worsen the acne condition thus leaving a person’s skin smooth and refreshed. This treatment requires a dermatologist to use phototherapy or the light therapy, which have different wavelengths. A doctor may expose a patient to laser beams, fluorescent lamps, bright bulbs, LED’s and spectrum lights. This treatment is exclusive of drugs, which sometimes worsen the acne condition especially if one is using wrong skin treatment.

Acne creams that contain benzoyl peroxide are not suitable for people with sensitive skin because it can cause a significant amount of damage. Many people now opt to go for the UV acne treatment, which is ideal for acne patients whose skin peel due to using acne creams that increase their sensitivity to sunlight such as benzoyl peroxide. Bacteria living in a person’s top skin layer are responsible for the formation of the acne condition in a person. Light acne treatment penetrates the skin and kills the bacteria thus relieving the condition significantly. This treatment is ideal for all skin types though people suffering from Porphyria should not undergo this treatment because the rays may cause severe damage.

Blue light treatments require a patient to attend eight therapy sessions that last for fifteen minutes each. After the therapy sessions, a person should maintain the skin by using acne skin-care products that have effective ingredients such as Proactiv, Salicylic Acid and Retextra. These ingredients are quite effective in relieving the acne condition and a person can see the results after a very short while. The clear acne treatment, which is a type of light acne treatment, is similar to the blue light treatment and is equally effective. The only difference between the two is that one emits blue beams while the other produces white beams. However, they both penetrate the patient’s skin and kill the bacteria or eliminate the scars caused by acne.
