Acne is a skin condition that requires a patient to take extra care by using medicated acne products. Acne skin-care products are available in different forms ranging from creams, oral medications and facial washes. Each of these products has specific features that work towards reducing acne in a patient. A person should try different skin products in order to find one that works well with their skin. Some products contain benzoyl peroxide, which is less effective than products that have ingredients such as Proactive, Salicylic Acid and Retextra. There are different types of skin care products specially formulated for acne patients. Benzoyl peroxide is known to cause swellings, irritations and dryness of the skin.

Acne skin-care products classify into three main formulas, which include AHA solution-based skin care products, products that contain salicylic acids and those that contain benzoyl peroxide solutions. The initials in AHA stand for ‘alpha hydroxyl acids’. These solutions contain milk, sugarcane extracts and citrus fruits. Their main aim is to reduce sebum, found in a patient’s skin. People who have acne tend to have an excess amount of sebum in the topmost layer of their skin. Skin care products that contain benzoyl peroxide come in form of either creams or gels. These skin care products should contain between two and a half and five percent of this solution for it to work effectively. Products containing benzoyl peroxide have the tendency to dry patients’ skin when used in normal dosages. When one exceeds the dosage, it causes the patient to experience irritation and burning.

The best and most effective acne skin-care products contain salicylic acids, which work by getting rid of dead cells that are responsible for the formation of acne. These cells block a patient’s skin pores thus causing bacteria to build on the topmost layer of their skin. Patient’s with acne should keep their faces constantly clean by washing with soaps meant for acne treatment that contain salicylic acids. They should also avoid touching their faces too much with their hands as they could have bacteria that are invisible to the eyes.
